158th District Court
Denton County, Texas

About the 158th Judicial Court

District courts have original jurisdiction in all felony criminal cases, divorce cases, cases involving title to land, election contest cases, civil matters in which the amount in controversy (the amount of money or damages involved) is $200 or more, and any matters in which jurisdiction is not placed in another trial court. While most district courts try both criminal and civil cases, in the more densely populated counties the courts may specialize in civil, criminal, juvenile, or family law matters.

Judge Steve Burgess

Being chosen to serve folks in Denton County is a great honor.  I have been able to help people for the past 15 years on an individual basis.  I look forward to doing so as a Judge.

Thank you to everyone that has supported and voted for me!  I appreciate the kindness my friends, family and even strangers have shown me.  The example my parents have given me of public service, helping others, faith and strength in adversity is the catalyst for my desire to serve as a Judge.

Our Constitution is the touchstone for our system of government.  It casts the light under which the laws must be viewed.  God blessed this country with the wisdom of our founders, that they were able to foresee many of the pitfalls of government and provide for the preservation of our individual rights.  As a Judge I will uphold the Constitution of our country and Texas.

I thank God for the blessing of my family.  Having six children that are healthy is a daily reminder of my great fortune.

Thank you,

Steve Burgess
